Headstones and plaques in cemeteries are useful resources for family historians. The websites of some local authorities contain photos of headstones in cemeteries under their care, some councils provide online records but no photos, and for some cemeteries records are available only in person during office hours.
This part of the website uses member contributions to develop a collection of photographs of headstones, memorial plaques and other items of remembrance for Mathesons in New Zealand cemeteries. It was begun only in 2019, so is very much a work in progress. Please send any contributions to firstname.lastname@example.org. Photos should be of the headstone only, and be of high resolution (at least 1MB if you’re using a phone). Flash is best avoided, and watch out for other reflections in polished marble headstones.
We’re not putting this work behind a paywall, but leaving it open for everyone to have access to. We would, though, encourage you support the work of the Clan Matheson Society in New Zealand by becoming a member (at a very modest subscription).

The website Findagrave has records for New Zealand, some of which contain headstone photos.
