MATHIESON, William Alfred 63365
Twin brother of Alexander Victor Mathieson (58005) and cousin of William Harper Mathieson (61337).
William (Bill or Lofty) fought in France with the 6th Hauraki company in 1918 including in the battle of Bapaume, where the company was almost wiped out. He stayed with the Haurakis through the battle of Le Quesnoy unitl the armistice, without being injured, before going on to serve in the occupation force in Germany. Back in New Zealand Bill turned to farming again, first on the family farm, then sharing a farm with his twin brother Alex, and then on his own account. Bill married Mary Hubber and they had three children. Bill died in 1962.
