MATHIESON, Alexander 8/975A
One of four Alexander Mathiesons who served in the First World War. He embarked with the Main Body and went to Egypt, and then to fight in the Dardanelles. He was shot in the right shoulder and arm on 7 August 1915, and admitted to hospital in Egypt four days later. After about six weeks in hospital he was repatriated to New Zealand and discharged. Alex was born in Glasgow. He died in Dunedin in 1938 aged only 58.
