MATHESON, Duncan James 53224
Brother of Roderick Ewen Matheson (9/311). Jim Matheson was born at Riverton in 1893, the second son of Ewen (Hugh) Matheson and Louisa Hardman. When he joined up his occupation was given as cheesemaker, and on his return after two and a half years overseas he worked at the Birchwood dairy factory near Ohai in Southland. He boarded with the manager, and in January 1920 perished when the house burnt down in the middle of the night. He was unmarried.
